Our Environmental Activities
As BATISÖKE, our aim with our cement factory is to produce clinker and cement in accordance with national and international standards and to supply these products with a service understanding that complies with the customers' desires and expectations. Having been fulfilling our environmental responsibilities as part of the TS-EN-ISO 14001:2015 certificate we have received in 2019, our general principle is to respect nature and to prevent environmental pollution. We are aware that protecting and improving the environment we live in is an integral part of our work and our lives. For this reason, we take maximum care to prevent environmental pollution and to consciously use natural resources. We reduce the resulting wastes at the source, and we recycle these wastes whenever possible. Our activities in this regard are as follows;
-Using gas and dust analyzers that continously perform measurements and record the results
-Making the best of the wastes by sorting them at source through the utilization of temporary waste storage facility and related equipment
-Generating power by utilizing the waste heat released into the atmosphere
-Using sound attenuators and galleries to minimize environmental noise
-Using vacuum cleaners and street sprinklers with the aim of preventing outdoor dust
- Reducing the consumption of natural resources by using alternative fuels and raw materials
Environmental Investment Projects
Staying on track with the purpose of providing a more livable world in the future, it is among our priorities to invest in the latest technology in order to protect the nature and prevent environmental pollution while we carry out our work. Our activities in this regard are as follows;
- Contributing to fuel saving and greenhouse gas reduction by burning in the rotary kilns the worn-out tires and many other alternative fuels, by means of combining the waste feeding systems with the main combustion system.
- Preventing the dust emissions that cannot be prevented beforehand by transforming the electro-filters of the rotary kilns in the factory into bag filters, in the case of power fluctuations, power outages and during commissioning and decommissioning of the facilities.
- Electric energy production from waste heat produced in the rotary kilns
Afforestation
We are aware that protecting and improving the environment we live in is an integral part of our work and our lives. In addition to the environmental rehabilitation of the fields where we operate as BATISÖKE, we continuously maintain our environmental activities with the principle of leaving a greener world for future generations. We restore the ecological balance in the area of any of our limestone mines, where we have stopped mining the limestone we use in cement production, through our rehabilitation works we carry out immediately after we stop our activities at the relevant mine. By harmonizing the topography of the site that has emerged after our activities with its natural topography, we ensure that the site is available for use with agricultural purposes and for the purposes of forestry.
Waste Management
BATISÖKE manages all of its hazardous and non-hazardous wastes through its Waste Management System pursuant to the relevant legislation. BATISÖKE also continues its efforts to adapt to the "Zero Waste" system.
BATISÖKE disposes of all of its wastes by burning them as alternative fuels for energy recovery on the basis of the Environmental Permit and License obtained from the Ministry of Environmental and Urbanization of Republic of Turkey.
BATISÖKE utilizes its wastes as alternative raw materials and fuels on the basis of the licenses and permits it holds, and prevents environmental pollution by preventing the carry over of the hazardous wastes to the storage areas and to the receiving environment in an uncontrolled manner. On the other hand, BATISÖKE also benefits from coal, the primary fuel of cement production, up to a certain extent, by making use of the thermal power of these wastes. In this way, BATISÖKE creates added value for the economic use of natural resources.
Carbon Footprint
With our “power generation from waste heat” project, which reduces carbon emissions, we are able to utillize the waste heat produced by the combustion process in production to generate part of the power we consume.
We generate the entire amount of steam needed for production and heating from the hot gas available in our chimneys. In this way, we do not use extra amount of fosil fuels for heating and production, and we reduce our annual carbon emissions by 10.000 tonnes which is equal to planting 16.000 trees per year.
With “power generation from waste heat”, which is one of the best technologies in terms of energy production ensuring the reduction in carbon emissions, we do our part with regards to global warming by reducing the impact of greenhouse gases on animate and inanimate beings, and we also contribute to the national energy production.
Batısöke Söke Çimento Sanayii T.A.Ş., which is one of the very first cement factories of our Republic, continues to contribute to the economy of the region and the country with the investments it makes and the employment opportunities it creates.
